LT Patrick J. Ardaiz
Lieutenant Patrick Ardaiz was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated with a degree in language from the University of Maryland and was commissioned in 1987 as an Ensign. He reported to NAS Pensacola for flight training. In August, he reported to VT-10. Upon graduation, he was transferred to VAW-120 for E-2C training. He was designated as a Naval Flight Officer in April 1989.
In May 1990, he reported to the VAW-124 Bear Aces, where he distinguished himself while flying in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. He had held the job of Assistant Operations Officer; previously, he was assigned to the Maintenance Department and served as the squadron’s First Lieutenant.
In 1991, he served in the Persian Gulf war.
Sean Ardaiz, LT Ardaiz’s brother, stated LT Ardaiz grew up dreaming of being a Navy pilot, but settled for being a navigator because he had less than perfect eyesight. “And he became good at it because he loved doing it,” said Sean Ardaiz. “He loved the Navy. He and his colleagues were like family.”
LT Ardaiz’s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Kuwait Liberation Medal.
